About The Role

As the Senior Safety and Compliance Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and managing compliance and safety deliverables for Humane’s products. This role is technical and requires someone with deep knowledge of consumer electronics safety certifications. You will champion “design for safety” principles within the development team, and will be accountable for creating and executing safety certification for our projects.

What You Might Do

  • Manage product compliance efforts from concept to production
  • Write and communicate compliance plans for new, cutting-edge products
  • Work with internal and external customers to test products to meet domestic and international regulatory requirements
  • Develop a compliance budget for all phases of product development and mass production
  • Review product designs early and provide “design for safety” input
  • Participate in product design reviews, advise development teams on certification requirements and markings early in the development process
  • Write test reports and develop a system to maintain and control all compliance and safety documentation
  • Collaborate with a talented team of cross-functional colleagues who are also experts in consumer electronics design, with backgrounds in mechanical and electrical engineering, optics, quality, manufacturing and more

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental Science or a closely related engineering discipline; or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of a broad set of electronics safety standards (ANSI, ISO, IEC, UL families of standards) 
  • Strong knowledge of UL/IEC/IEEE battery safety standards, and general understanding of pack design
  • Strong knowledge of EMC standards (IEC 61000 series, FCC Part 15, etc.)
  • Previous experience working, negotiating and interfacing with certification bodies (UL, CSA, TUV, etc.)
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programs
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills implementing and complying with REACH Regulation, WEEE Directive, RoHS I/II (III) Directive, Batteries Directive, etc.
  • Strong understanding of EU CE marking process, North American, and APAC environmental regulations
