About The Role

Humane’s Hardware team is responsible for developing and launching new classes of devices that will fundamentally change the way we interact with computers. As a Lead Manufacturing Design Engineer, you will work alongside designers, engineers, operations managers, and our supplier partners to develop and launch new manufacturing processes.  

What You Might Do:

  • Lead the development and refinement of new manufacturing processes and surface finishes 
  • Strategize, assess, and help with the selection of Humane’s mechanical supply chain
  • Use data to drive research and experimentation with our world class manufacturing partners 
  • Experiment, create, and iterate on many part samples and present detailed reports to design, engineering, and operations leadership
  • Work directly with ID, PD, PMs and Operations teams to help ideate, design, and bring new devices to market

Essential Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics or relevant practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a manufacturing design engineer, or SBE in consumer electronics, automotive, or relevant industry
  • Deep expertise in a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes:
    • CNC, Stamping, Injection Molding, and more
    • Joinery methods: welding, adhesives, and more
    • Cosmetic surface finishes for metal, plastic, and glass including polishing, painting, plating, and more
  • Experience pushing manufacturing suppliers to innovate beyond their capabilities
  • Experience assessing and procuring technical manufacturing equipment

Preferred Skills

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science
  • Experience using statistical analysis tools (JMP, Tableau, etc.) to present data graphically 
  • You are comfortable designing slides and making presentations to the leadership team
  • You know your way around a machine shop
  • You have a desire to work in a collaborative environment where honesty and accountability are paramount
  • Ability to drive tasks independently and escalate and communicate issues and needs clearly
